Banksy
Yesterday we ventured down to Covent Garden to see ‘Please Love Me’ - an unauthorised exhibition showing artwork of Banksy.
First impressions.. Well, it felt weird and slightly odd to see Banksy’s work is a gallery type space.. We are viewing his work how he didn’t intended - At the end of the day he is a street artist after all.
I guess it’s the fact that the work on show has been removed from a public space.. from off the streets and then placed in a gallery with the possibility of it being sold. Isn’t this something that all street artists are against?
So, With this being an unauthorised exhibition, would Banksy approve? I dunno…. but as someone who has yet to have a chance to see genuine examples of Banksy’s work… then i guess I’m grateful to this exhibition. Saying that, I would have liked to have seen these pieces of work in the context of which they were created in… in the streets.
ps. I still want to go up to his home town in Bristol to see his official exhibition… Who wants to take me?
